The
story of the zipper...
| >>
It was invented in 1913 by Geidon Sundbach, a man from
Sweden living in United States. |
| >>
The ease of the zipper was first proved during the World
War I. It was used in 1917 in the wind proof petti coats
of the United States Navy soldiers, where it was seen
to be very useful. |
| >>
In 1923, the B. G. Work of B. F. Goodrich company conveyed
the military zipper to the civil life. |
| >>
In 1927, the zipper was first used in the sportswear in
United Kingdom. |
| >>
The world of fashion knew the zipper in 1930 thanking
to the costumes of Mme Schiaparelli. |
| >>
In 1934, the Prince of Wales wanted the zipper to be used
in his trousers and petti coats. |
| >>
In 1935, the zipper became a inseparable part of our lives. |

The
Structure of the Zipper...

Tape
The
zipper tapes are generally knot with 300 denye 100 % Polyester
thread in narrow knitting machines. The tapes are knot according
to the type and characteristics of the zipper to be produced,
and with sizes shown in the table below. During the knitting,
the piping which provides that the metal and bone zipper tapes
cling to the gears side is knot together. The nylon tapes
are knot without piping. They are later sown with the gears.
The tapes can be knot on Cotton and Mixture as required. The
piping are generally of 100 percent Polyester. They can be
of cotton as required. The tapes can be on any design (Fish
Back, Sand Design) as the related company requires acconding
to its own standard. In the narrow knitting machines like
these, tapes with vertical stripped designs can also be knot
using color threads. Moreover, as required, tapes with ladder-mender
can be knot for the Fabric producers. Designs, images, reflectors
and foils can be printed over the tapes with hot transfer.
The zipper tapes are knot with raw threads unless is required
otherwise. The knot threads are painted at 130 C in the high
temperature and high pressure (HT) system painting machines
according to order quantity and color. They are fixed, too.
The painted tapes are dried at 120-130 C. And they are prepared
for usage.
Cursors
They
are produced by Zamak. They are produced with a variety of
sizes according to different types of zippers. They are colored
with covering or epoxy according to the type o fthe zipper.
The cursors have such types as automatic, hooked, wire handled,
bridged, threaded, etc. The hooked ones carry Zamak accesories
made on plastic or garment.

Matters
to be concerned in Zipper Selection
- In
selecting a zipper, be careful about the garment weight
and thickness. Do not select thin type zipper for thick
garments.
-
Seek special lock in the zippers of baby and child wear.
-
In order to make the correct selection, ask for zipper performance
tests, quality documents and ecotext certificate from your
customer representative.
-
Do not select metal oxide zipper for the light color wears.
- Prefer
zippers which are environment friendly and which do not
harm the human health.
- Do
not use secret zippers in stretch wears.

Matters
to be concerned in Zipper Ordering
-
Information is given during the ordering for the zippers
to be sown to the contrast colors. Precaution is taken against
color speciality and color flowing.
- In
order to fix the sought color at the zipper, at least a
5X5 cm garment sample should be sent. Moreover, the colors
can also be selected from the color scale.
- The
difference between the length of the zipper stated at the
label and the length of the product should not exceed +/-
3 mm, or the proportion of this difference to the product
length should not exceed +/- 1,5 %.
- Ir
orders, up to 7 % over products are delivered. The zippers
with bottom that are shorter than 14 cm are priced over
14 cm while the separate ones that are shorter than 30 cm
are priced over 30 cm.
- For
the bone zippers, three different paints are used. For this
reason, prefer lesser orders and silver or oxide gears for
samples.
- The
production of the zippers are done for normal usage conditions
and washing at home condition. If the zipper is to be handled
with a special manner and/or to be subject to chemical washing,
state this situation during the ordering.
- Information
should be given during the ordering for the colors to be
looked at under conditions other than the daylight. Since
the wavelengths of the daylight lamp and fleuresant lamp
are different, different colors may be percepted over the
same garment. Unless there is a special request, the colors
are adjusted according to the daylight.
- The
zipper tapes are 100 % Polyester. It should be noted that
there shall be tone variances because of the mixing with
cotton, light surface and melange garments.
- The
color OK request should be informed at the ordering stage.
- If
you order secret zipper, you are recommended to state 2
cm zipper length.
- If
the zipper tape subject to the order is less than 1,5 kg,
there may be tone variance in the colors.

Matters
to be concerned in Zipper Usage
- The
zippers are completely closed, cursor is locked, the product
is turned inside out at the products that are subject to
washing operation.
- For
washing operations, 30-50 C temperatures are recommended.
-
The zippers to wait for long should be waited in their package
and under none-damp conditions.
- The
product to which zipper is sown should be packaged after
being subject to vapor ironing and press operation and cooling.
-
At the separate zippers, the mutual tapes should not be
mixed to each other. (There may be difference in tones,
designs and lengths.)
-
Chemical materials should not be used in the washing of
the painted cursors. The product should be turned inside
out and the temperature should not exceed 40 C and there
should be sufficient product in the washing tank.
- Leave
sufficient distance between the garment and the zipper where
the tape can easily operate. The zippers should be sown
to the flexible garments without stretching. Note that the
pedal of the sewing machine should not press the cursor.
Also ensure that the press iron is not extremely hit on
the zipper.
- Do
not touch the needle to the metal parts of the zipper while
sewing the zipper to the garment. This needle can be broken.
The needle that is pressed between the stops may cause injuries.
- While
sewing the zipper in the sewing machine, do not cut the
zipper tape; otherwise, the zipper tape shall be torn down
since the tapes are knitted garment.
- A
thread or a garment may intervene the cursor while opening
or closing the zipper, and forcing the cursor in order to
continue opening or closing may increase the problem. The
cursor should be pulled back. The intervening thread or
garment is put out. The zipper is sown to the product with
great care such that it does not push the cursor.
- Parafin
type material is applied to the gears of the zipper in order
that the zipper is easily opened and closed. While ironing,
put a piece of garment or paper over the parts touching
to the zipper in order to prevent the garment from becoming
stained.
- Put
on and take off your wears after completely opening or closing
their zippers, respectively. Otherwise, the gears, bottom
stop or cursor can be overloaded, thus the zipper might
be damaged.
- If
the zipper is operating stretch after washing, apply candle
or soap over its gears.
- While
sewing the secret zipper to the product, you should exactly
fix the special secret zipper sewing apparatus to your sewing
machine. Otherwise, you may face problems.
- Take
care so that the solutions and plushes do not harm the gears
in the production of boots, shoes and bags.
